Safe Rooms is a collection of instruments and kits meant to evoke the sounds and vibes of early survival horror, specifically that of the safe room and the narrative cut scene.
Safe Rooms Release Video
The main two inspirations for Safe Rooms are the music in early Resident Evil Safe Rooms, written by the incredible team of Makoto Tomozawa, Koichi Hiroki, and Masami Ueda for the first 3 games and Shusaku Uchiyama and Misao Senbongi for RE4, and the melodic pieces written for the first 4 silent hill games, written by the legendary Akira Yamaoka.
I studied the music for these series’s safe room and cutscene music and identified the instruments used. Then I multi-sampled them from synths and romplers that would have been around during that time. I tried to capture that uncanny valley of imperfect orchestral strings, harps, and pianos used expertly in the RE games. For the Silent Hill references I tried to capture those early trip-hop vibes that Yamaoka so deftly delivered.
I also wanted to make this a flexible toolkit, so I included more abstract and darker instruments and atmospheres. This lets you get into a deep, stripped-back, and tense ambiance.
Safe Rooms was created with the 1.2 release of the Synthtsrom Deluge Community firmware. It hasn't been tested on the factory firmware, so please note that it may not work completely the right way unless you’re on the community firmware.
